Old Blue 707TED LUNDY
AND THE SOUTHERN MOUNTAIN BOYS  OB-707

This CD covers a decade of the most productive years of Ted Lundy and his band, the Southern Mountain Boys – eighteen bluegrass tracks recorded between 1962 and 1971. Raised in the Galax, Virginia area, he absorbed its rich musical traditions and clearly can be considered one of the founders of the Galax Sound.

The tracks come from three sessions. Two tracks come from the 1962 session in which he recorded an EP for the New River label. Six, including a sensational fiddle-banjo duet with Sonny Miller, were recorded in 1966. The remaining tracks were in 1971.

Ted had the knack of finding other equally talented musicians who meshed nicely with him. Fred Hanna was with him over the ten year span of these recordings; Sonny and Bob Paisley were also long-term members of the Southern Mountain Boys.

The high quality of the music is complemented by the excellent liner notes written by one of the leading authorities on the Galax Sound, Ken Landreth.

As was the case with OB-708, the purchaser of OB-7o7 from Old Blue directly will also receive a Bonus CD made when Ted played with Tommy Jarrell Kyle Creed, and Bobby Patterson at Tommy house.
